Mainland-Hong Kong Intelligent Construction Development Forum Kicks Off at The 17th CIHIE (2025)

The "Mainland-Hong Kong Intelligent Construction Development Forum", a key side event of The 17 th China Int'l Integrated Housing Industry & Building Industrialization Expo, opened with great success on May 9th at Hall 2 of the Poly World Trade Center Expo. Jointly organized by the Intelligent Construction Committee of the China Council for the Promotion of Construction Trade and the Hong Kong Construction Industry Council (CIC), the forum brought together nearly 200 industry leaders, scholars, and experts from mainland China and Hong Kong to explore innovative pathways for intelligent construction.  
 
"Opening Ceremony Highlights Collaboration Potential"  
Mr. Cai Mingyong, Vice President of the China Council for the Promotion of Construction Trade, delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing intelligent construction as an inevitable trend in the future of the building industry. He highlighted the vast potential for collaboration between mainland China and Hong Kong in smart construction, prefabrication, and integrated technologies, calling for strengthened exchanges to enhance the global competitiveness of the "Bay Area Construction" brand.  
 
Mr. Fu Zhancheng, Chairman of the CIC’s Mainland Affairs Committee, expressed gratitude to attendees and outlined the CIC’s role in bridging the two regions. He stressed the importance of integrating Hong Kong’s expertise with mainland advancements to foster synergy in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and drive industry transformation.  
 
"Keynote Speeches: AI, Sustainability, and Robotics"  
- "AI-Driven Digital Transformation": Mr. Li Gang, Director of the Intelligent Construction Committee, presented *"AI Agents Powering Digital Upgrades in Construction," detailing how artificial intelligence can optimize workflows from design to execution. He also highlighted opportunities for China’s construction sector in Southeast Asia’s growing infrastructure market.  
- "Green Building Practices": Prof. Huang Jianxiang of Tsinghua SIGS and CIC’s Sustainability Committee shared insights on *"Hong Kong’s Green Construction and Material Certification,"* offering valuable lessons for sustainable development.  
- "Robotic Innovation": Mr. Ho Ho Cheung, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Steel Structure Engineering Research Center (Hong Kong Branch), discussed "Welding Robots in S960 Steel Pedestrian Bridges," showcasing how automation enhances precision in complex projects.  
 
"Industry Innovations and Case Studies"  
- "Modular Integrated Construction (MIC)": Mr. Cheung Yiu Sun, Honorary Advisor of the Hong Kong MIC Alliance, demonstrated MIC’s efficiency and environmental benefits through real-world applications.  
- "Smart Public Housing": Mr. Yiu Fan Hung, Innovation Technology Director of the Hong Kong Housing Authority, shared how technology improves quality and reduces construction timelines in public housing.  
- "Prefabrication Breakthroughs": Mr. Zhou Shengyong, Founder of Module Technology, introduced "Fully Prefabricated Prestressed Concrete Modules," a game-changer for industrializing construction.  
 
"Roundtable: Synergizing GBA Development"
A high-level panel discussion, "One Bay Area, One Blueprint: Collaborative Innovation in Construction," moderated by Mr. Zhang Feng, Secretary-General of the Intelligent Construction Committee, explored policy alignment, technology sharing, and talent development to accelerate GBA integration.  
 
"Conclusion"  
The forum served as a dynamic platform for cross-border knowledge exchange, fostering deeper cooperation in intelligent construction. With shared commitment, the GBA is poised to lead China’s construction industry into a smarter, more sustainable future.
